Ebony's Story
Ebony came to the League for Animal Welfare with a sibling when she was about 4 months old.  She was black and her sibling was white so they "cleverly" named them Ebony and Ivory after the song.  Ivory was out-going and playful so she was adopted pretty quickly.  Ebony was scared, shy, and not very friendly.  Over the months she eventually came out of her shell but only to a few of the shelter staff and volunteers.  I always thought of adopting her but felt three dogs was enough. After Missy died I thought about adopting her but since she looks a bit like Missy I didn't want to saddle her with that baggage.  I wait a few weeks and adopted her...giving those at the shelter a week to beat me to her but no one did.  I figured she spent a year at the shelter and paid her dues so it was time to give her a try.  One September 11, 2004 she came home with me and my other two pups.  KP was indifferent....Bo was like "not another" neither to this day have really taken to her.  I suspect it's because they are 10 and 13 and she is 1.5.

The first day was nothing but her freaking out....the TV absolutely mesmerized her.  She would stare at it until a noise distracted her.  She eventually laid on the couch behind me and watched TV.  Eating was not her thing.  She needs to put ~ 10 lbs on her body.  Getting there slowly.  She now runs and plays, but, not always at the right time of day.  It's almost been a month and so far so good.

Ebony has finally gained some weight.  Not sure if she will ever get any bigger given her personality.  I briefly thought of changing her name to "Nelly" because she is such a nervous nelly.  With few exception she doesn't warm up to strangers.  She even runs from people who come to my house regularly.  She is very aggressive/barky with people who come close to the property line or front porch but once they are within the house she is all nerves.  She barks and goes nuts when people walk long the privacy fence (especially teenagers).  She now jumps up and holds herself on top of the fence to see what's going on.  She has learned to stand on the middle cross beam.  If someone is over there she'll growl and snarl at them real mean...little do they know she would run like a scared cat if they challenged her.  Guenther and her get into all the time because he tries to distract her and she'll have none of that.  She did take a chunk out of his nose a while back.

More later...
