TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)
On Wednesday, February 14, 2001 (Valentine's Day) Bo had his TPLO do at the Tennessee Avenue Animal Hospital by Dr. John T. Payne. They called me about 2:30 PM to tell me everything went well and that he was just waking up. I was told to call the following morning after 9:00 AM to see if he could go home. As expected, I was able to pick Bo up the next day. They said he wouldn't eat for them so I fed him when we got home. Of course he ate for me. Bo never slept anywhere but home so I'm sure the entire experience was very stressful for him, not to mention the pain and discomfort from the surgery.
The fun now begins. 7 weeks of restricted activities and no steps. Thank god they said he could do steps as long as he was tightly controlled on a leash. He went down OK but the first few times he didn't want to go up them. I had to carry him....all 116 lbs....can you say hernia? The next night he hopped up the steps very well so I expect he'll be OK from now on.
Day 2 Post-Op...the first meal in 40 hours (he would eat at the hospital):
Day 4 Post-Op...relaxing in the yard:
Day 6 Post-Op, Bo manages to get his bandage down
while I was in the shower.
He manages to rip about 6 staples out. Which resulted in a visit to my vet
for
repairs.
Turns out he had a hot spot on his butt
from the surgical scrub which needed treatment also. An unexpected costs
of $181.95...looks like Bo and the E-Collar will becoming good friends.
Day 7 Post-Op...Bo hiding from the E-Collar: Bo & his buddy:
Stitch removal day (12 days Post-Op)...Before:
After: next day after his licking at it:
